ディスコースマーカーを使用する

ディスコースマーカー（又はTransition Wordsと言います）は、文章の論理構成や展開を明確にするために使用される接続表現を指します。

センテンス同士を適切なディスコースマーカーで結ぶことによって、前後の因果関係が明確になり読み手にとてより明確でわかりやすい文章を書くことができるようになります。

参考までに以下にディスコースマーカーをまとめてあるので、普段使えてないものを意識的にライティング・スピーキングで使用してみてください。

情報の追加	and / also / too / moreover / furthermore / what is more / beside / additionally / etc.
情報の具体化	in other words / that is (to say) / it means / in fact / indeed / strictly speaking / in short(brief) / etc.
具体例の提示	for example / for instance / (let’s) suppose / (let’s) say / take ～ as an example / in particular / etc.
逆説	but / however / yet / nevertheless / conversely / instead / etc.
譲歩	though / although / even though / even if / while / in spite of / despite / regardless of / etc.
対比	while / whereas / some ～ others … / the former ～ the latter … / on the other hand / meanwhile / etc.
原因・根拠	because / as / since / now (that) / for / because of / due to / on account of / The reason (why …) is that / This is because / etc.

ディスコースマーカーを用いて2つ以上のセンテンスが繋がったものを「コンプレックス・センテンス」と呼びます。

コンプレックス・センテンスの使用は書き手の英語習熟度を表す指標の一つでもあるので、関連のあるセンテンスがあれば積極的にディスコースマーカーを使用していきましょう。
