【タスク2】役立つ語彙・表現
アカデミック・ライティングでは、確証のない主張に関しては断定表現を避けることが一般的です。断定表現を避けて、あえて読み手が考える余地を与える表現方法を、 “Hedging” や “Vague Language” と呼びます:
- 断定的な表現:
- The commitment to some of the social and economic concepts was less strong than it is now.
- Hedgingを用いた表現:
- It may be said that the commitment to some of the social and economic concepts was less strong than it is now.
上記の例文を比べてみると、後者のセンテンスの方が表現が柔らかくなり、主張が必ずしも正しいわけではないというニュアンスを含ませることができます。
以下に、Headgingとして活用される語彙やフレーズをまとめたので参考にしてください:
